One thing a translation service can do and that is to translate any written document into plain language. Sometimes documents presented to a German Translator are in quite complex language and if the translator was to translate the subject matter literally it may be too difficult to understand by the expected audience.

When someone wants a complex text translated he or she should advise the German translator who the intended reader is likely to be of the translated document. This information will provide the translator with a useful starting point when determining the level of language that will be used in the translation. Take an example of a medical report written by a doctor after a car accident. If the report was written for another medical professional to read, the language may be written in a more technical form as the reader will be at the same level of understanding as the writer. If the report has to be translated as evidence for a personal injury claim in court, the judge and jury will need to see a translation done by a German translator that is in plain language which can be understood by anyone in the courtroom. Documents presented in a court have a wide audience and using plain language is the only way a translation can be understood more easily by everyone in the audience.

To put it more simply, plain language when it comes to translation services is language that has been simplified so that it can be easily understood by individuals of every education level and regional dialect. Plain language is a communication tool that allows more people to access written information with the certainty that they can understand it.

Plain language is often used on government forms such as tax forms so that everyone can understand and complete all the required information without any chance of misunderstanding. Governments often require plain language to be used on any reading material provided to the public and in as variety of languages. This means a German translator will be required to provide a translation service that will address the literacy needs of the intended readership.
